Welcome to paradise! The Mentawais are known as the surfing mecca par excellence. This archipelago located in the Indian Ocean, for the West coast from Sumatra, therefore belongs on the bucket list of each surfer! With his idyllic islands, clear blue water and a wide variety of surf spots with world-class waves, the Mentawais never disappoint.

Our Driftwood basecamp is located on the island "Nyang Nyang" (Pulau Masokut), located in the North of the Mentawais, better known as "Playgrounds". There is no region in the Mentawais, and perhaps even in the entire world, with more waves then here! Our boat transfer brings you daily in about 30 minutes to one of more than 20 world-class waves. Perhaps names like: Rifles, Kandui, Ebay, Bank Vaults, Hideaways, Pistols, Dog's Reef or Pitstops might ring a bell. "Ebay", one of the dear Lefts in the Mentawais, moreover, lies right at our front door! At a mere 47 seconds of walking.

Besides surfing mind blowing barrels Moreover, it is the ideal place to snorkeling, island hopping, hiking, spearfishing, in order to yoga to do overlooking the ocean, cozy beers to drink and much more!

MENTAWAIS

Day 1 & 2: Flying to Padang

On Thursday you fly to Jakarta where you will not arrive until Friday. Then in Jakarta you will take a flight to Padang Where you will arrive Friday night. Here overnight you in a hostel near the ferry which you have the next morning to get to Driftwood. Yes, it's a long way to paradise, but you won't regret it. PS: Padang is known worldwide for its streetfood so try it out!

Day 3: Boat ride to Driftwood

Saturday morning you take the fast ferry to Driftwood. Keep in mind that even with the fast ferry you will have to take a all day long will be. For the last stage you will be picked up by the speedboat from Driftwood to then after a long journey finally getting to your destination.

Day 4 to 12: Surf & Island life

Nine full days enjoy surf, the island life, snorkeling, yoga and much more. In other words, welcome to paradise! Depending on weather and surf conditions, we provide 2 boat transfers daily to the best surf spots.

Day 13: Boat trip to Padang

After an unforgettable stay, we take on Tuesday again the speedboat and ferry direction Padang. Once we arrive in Padang, we bring the night by being in a hostel in order to then use the next morning the plane to take in the direction of Belgium.

Day 14 & 15: Flying to Brussels

Wednesday we fly back to Jakarta and from Jakarta again to Brussels. Here we will not arrive until the next day.

MENTAWAIS

Driftwood Resort

Driftwood is located among the palm trees on the island Pulau Masokut in the North of the Mentawais. Since there are only a maximum of 12 guests can stay, you are sure to have an unforgettable experience!

The resort is divided into:

• Lodge containing 2 lodge-rooms each provided with 1 double bed and 1 single bed, a bar, bathroom and dining area that doubles as a dance floor when needed. In our price have you 1 bed per person and thus lie there but 2 persons per room. Fill the room with 3 people and thus sleep 2 together in the double bed and 1 someone in the single bed, then you get 130 euros discount pp in the room!
• Pole houses/bungalows consisting of 2 bedrooms with each 1 double bed and 1 single bed, and a chill area. In our price have you 1 bed per person and thus lie there but 2 persons per room. Fill the room with 3 people and thus sleep 2 together in the double bed and 1 someone in the single bed, then you get 130 euros discount pp in the room!

Trip there and back

You are coming Friday to in Padang. This is where you spend the night 1 night in a hostel near the ferry which you have the next morning have to take. 10 days later, on a Tuesday, are you taking the boat back to Padang where you again 1 night in a hostel will spend. Wednesday fly you then possibly back to Belgium.

MENTAWAIS

Surfers are coming to the Mentawai Islands to help the tremendous waves experience. It is therefore one of the most consistent surf destinations throughout the world. In fact, you can find the big waves all year round finding. Although there multiple surf spots per island can be found that vary in intensity and strength, you must be sure of your surfing skills, and be willing to be on high waves to surf that break on shallow coral reefs.

Surflevel

Beginners

By beginners, we mean surfers those be able to stand upright comfortably on a wave not yet broken and those already to a certain side can turn in. For them, in the low season, when the waves less high are definitely something to do and surf. When the swells bigger are and you can feel not yet comfortable enough feels in the water, you can still be on the Mentawais enjoy of the other activities and of the island life, but then you leave it surf for your own safety perhaps better pass you by. 

Intermediates

The intermediate surfers are those who standing up smoothly and comfortably, smooth bends be able to take and already have some surfing experience have at something larger waves. They will here some of the best waves in their lives can score! It is the spot to experience up, progress to book and to yourself every day challenge. This is the surfing paradise that you have loved for so long dreamed have!

Advanced

The advanced surfers know why they come here. To them we don't need to tell them much more about the Mentawais. Ready to take the stand-up barrel of your life to drive? See you in the lineup!

Insurance

Finally, we ask each participant to provide a travel insurance taken out for the entire period of the trip. An example is the short-term travel insurance with Allianz. Call and email your insurer in advance, explain what you will be doing and make sure you have a good understanding of what all is covered and what the exceptions are! If required, we will advise you on how to properly obtain the necessary insurance.

MENTAWAIS

The dry season runs from May to October. The rainy season from November to April, with in January and February the brightest rain months.

May to September: High season

This is prime-time for the Mentawais. During this time of year, the biggest swells within. Prepare for the stand-up barrel of your life, and make sure you are ready to take your surfskills to the extreme push! Although it this time of year fairly crowded is, there are so many spots that work allowing you to always somewhere another almost empty line-up will find.

October to November & March to April: Intermediate season

During this time of year, you can find here everything finding going From solid overhead swells to small fun days. The waves its good and it is already much less crowded. We see this time of year as the Mentawais best kept secret. Thick fun for advanced surfers, but most importantly very interesting for the intermediates!

December to February: Low season

Big swells come during this time of year less often for. This is the period in which you more small perfect waves will find, than that you in one year could surf. About crowds you should not worry at all, this is the time of the empty line-ups. Combined with nice weather, this is the ideal time for beginners to intermediates.
