On this trip you will tour in Northern Macedonia, a pristine Balkan gem. Moreover, we do not stay in one place, but travel we around and tour, depending on snow and weather conditions, on the border with Kosovo and on the border with Albania. We stay alternately in pleasant hotels and traditional homestays.

This trip can custom be according to the level of the group. Both beginning as advanced tour skiers can fully indulge themselves here, in other words.

The area

The Balkans is a well-kept secret Among adventurers who yearn for fresh snow, a total experience and a unique pristine area. The high mountains, lack of infrastructure and supply of thick packs of snow combined with wonderfully beautiful nature where fresh lines are daily fare, in fact, provide the ideal recipe for a fantastic tour skiing experience!

Comfort 80%: You will sleep in cozy hotels and homestays, equipped with a little extra luxury and comfortable beds.

Intensity 80%: You participate in an active trip that requires a good level of fitness. This means that you will exercise at least 2x a week and generally be active.

Adventure 80%: From a certain base of operations, explore pristine areas and use nature as your playground.

Tourski & Splitboard Macedonia

Day 1: Popova Sapka

Arrival in Skopje Macedonia and transportation to our departure base in Popova Sapka where we stay at the 4-star Hotel Scardus for the start of our "tourski & splitboard Macedonia" adventure. This ski village is located in the West of Macedonia, at 1687 meters altitude, right in the in the middle of the ancient Shar Mountains, about 70 km (an hour and a half drive) from the main city of Skopje. Here we will do a material check and overflow we the program for the next few days.

Day 2: Tito's peak & peak Plat

Today we climb Tito's peak. This mountain of 2748 meters forms the highest peak of the Shar Mountains. Using a snowcat we drive up to an altitude of 2550 meters. From this point we continue along the ridge toward Tito's peak. After the climb, we ski down into an east-opening cirque direction Gorna Leshnica, located at an altitude of 1,800 meters. Then we move up again to the ridge of Peak Flat to afterwards enjoy a 2nd line up to 1600 meters.*

Day 3: Kobilica Peak

Early breakfast after which we drive 1 hour to Vejce. From here our climb to Kobilica peak with an altitude of 2528 meters. Depending on snow conditions, we need to carry our ski equipment 100 vertical elevation meters to the snow line from where we start touring to the foot of Kobilica peak. Kobilica is one of the most scenic peaks of the Shar Mountains and is right on the border of Macedonia and Kosovo. The second part of the run is steeper and approaches the ridge from where a beautiful view of both lands unfolds. We then choose our line down the East or South facing mountain flank and ski to the village.*

Day 4&5: Kepi Bard & Mt Korab

Today we tour to Kepi Bard with an altitude of 2638 meters. 4×4s will take us to the starting point at 1450 meters altitude. Through a beautiful beech forest, some valleys and mountain ridges we finally arrive at the foot of Kepi Bard or "the white hat peak." This lies directly opposite Mt Korab, the highest peak in both Albania and Macedonia. When we arrive at the base of the peak we have a view of a East-facing valley, hopefully covered with a thick layer of powder snow for an unforgettable descent. The last part of the tour there is a chance that we will need crampons to reach the final peak. From the summit, we choose the safest option to descend going from long steep stretches to playful gullies. The next day we then climb Mt Korab, with a height of 2764m This is the highest mountain in Macedonia and Albania.*

Dag 6: Magaro Peak

Today we tour to Magaro peak, with its 2254 altimeters, it is the highest peak in Galichica national park. What makes this mountain so special are the Macedonia's two largest natural lakes which are located on either side of the mountain, Prespa lake and Ohrid lake. Here you have at good weather the feeling that you from the top straight into the sea can skiing.*

Dag 7: Yablanica

Onze laatste tourskidag brengen we door op Yablanica mountain. Na het ontbijt checken we dus uit en rijden we ongeveer 45 minutes to the village of Gorna Belica, the starting point of the tour. We start at 1450m altitude touring through a beautiful forest after which we end up with a high plateau. Van daar kunnen we verder klimmen naar Chumin Peak, of to Black Rock. Both a little above 2200 meters. Chumin Peak offers a nice descent towards Albania en enkele korte, steile gullies. Black Rock, the highest peak of the two, offers a blissful bowl to ski in with again a nice view of Ohrid Lake and some mountain ranges located in Albania.*

Day 8: Home

We check out and then you become dropped off at the airport in Skopje. You will then fly back with a backpack full of memories of tourski & splitboard Macedonia.

4* Scardus Hotel

The first 2 nights we stay at the very well-appointed 4-star hotel "Scardus," equipped with a bar, restaurant, Wi-Fi, ski and snowboard equipment storage and spa center equipped with swimming pool, sauna and Turkish bath to which you have free access. *

3* Hotels and homestay

In addition, we stay in Hotel Riviera On the shores of Lake Ohrid. The hotel is located near the old town and offers picturesque views of the lake, Old Town and the famous Fort Samoil, in a 3* hotel in Mavrovo National Park en tot slot brengen we ook nog nachten door in andere home-style rustic hotels and homestays. *

Tent Camps

Fancy a extra portion of adventure? Then stay 1 or 2 nights in one of our brand new tent camps in the middle of the mountains. Completely off grid! We use expedition dome tents In which we make it cozy and cozy.*

*All accommodations are of course subject to the program which will be based on snow conditions, weather conditions and group level. Because of this, places to stay may differ from the above. Anyway, we always work with nice, comfortable accommodation similar to what is described above.

Guides

Safety is our number one priority. The guides we work with live and live in Macedonia and have minimum 6 to 10 years of experience as a mountain guide, have the necessary local and international certifications, participate on a regular basis in safety courses and its seasoned freeriders & tour skiers.

Safety Equipment

We ask each participant to yourself safety equipment such as a backpack with airbag, avalanche pager, shovel and probe provide. An airbag is not mandatory, but is strongly recommended. As is a helmet. Safety equipment may be included upon request.

Insurance

Finally, we require each participant to provide a Proof of purchase of travel insurance specifically for off-piste skiing and snowboarding for the entire period of the trip. An example is short-term travel insurance with winter sports/special winter sports coverage at Allianz or KBF. Call and email your insurer in advance, explain what you will be doing and make sure you have a good understanding of what all is covered and what the exceptions are! If desired, we will help you find the correct insurance.
